Album Review (Student Choice)

The Fame: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga's album "The Fame" came out August 19th, 2008. Her love of fame, 80's electricpop, and synthpop inspired her to write these songs to incorperate dance music too. Her album went to number one in many countries like United Kingdom, Canada, Austria and more. "The Fame" came in as number two in the Billboard 200 charts, there was over 12 million copies sold.  Just Dance was the first song to be released by her then the song Poker Face, two of the most popular songs ever written by her. It was able to hit number one it the Hot 100 Chart. This is one of my favorite albums by her, the music is great to listen to and also to dance to. Many songs on this album include "Eh, Eh (There's nothing else I can say), LoveGame, and Paparazzi." My favorite song on this album is Poker Face, there is something about that song that makes me want to get up and dance, it is also fun to jam out to in the car driving around. Just Dance recieved a Grammy nomination for Best Dance-Recording category. December, 2009 Poker Face had three Grammy nominations in the categories of Best Dance Record, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year but it won Best Dance Record. Lady Gaga is an insparational musician and her music is well done, certainlly with the help of her interesting choice of outfits and makeup styles.

Pet Peeves

1. People who chomp their gum or snap it: Listen, you are not a cow. I do not want to see or hear you chewing your gum and i do not think anyone else would like to.

2. Seeing people drive we animals on their laps: You are not Brittany Spears, your risking your life and anothers. Its not safe or make you look cool.

3. Saying "Like" like a bunch of times: Please think of another word to replace it, there are thousands of words you can say instead of "Like."

4. Crotch Walkers: Boys....pull your pants up, I am sorry but no one wants to see what type of underwear you have on today.

5. Cigarettes: People who smoke them and the smell in general are just awful.

6. Random numbers calling the house: People who we do not know calling the hours at all hours of the day. Stop calling we do not know you or care what you want, especially when you are trying to sell us stuff.

7. Lazy people who just complaing about everything:  Get up and do something! You never know how far you can get if you just try and not sit and complain about random stuff that isnt even worth whining about.

8. Parking to close to cars: Its a pain in the butt trying to squeeze into your own car because some people do not know how to park and make room for others. If your to close to a car, you'll probably end up hitting it.

9. Double Parking: Drives me insane because what if you are in a rush or its crowded...people love to take up two parking spots when your car is not even that big. Leave some room for others, dont be rude.

Short Story

Rachel and Adam have been friends for a long time, people assumed thet are dating because they are always together. Once high school started emotions developed between the two of them. Rachel begins to grow feelings for Adam and showed it by sending signals like dressing up to get his attention but he never really noticed. Adam did not show it but you could tell right away he had feelings. She heard around school that Adam likes her, but she would rather he opens his heart and tells her how he feels. Later that night Rachel gets a phone call from Adam and asks her to go out with him tomorrow night, right away she says yes. They both feel a sign of relief after the phone call. Saturday night comes around, they are nervous but excited at the same time. Adam goes to pick Rachel up and takes to dinner and a movie. He took her to Applebees and had so much fun, shared a lot of laughs and talked for a long time. Adam payed for both dinner and the movie, they say "The Fighter" and really enjoyed it. Throughout the night Rachel was waiting for him to say something about what she heard in school but Adam did not say a word. By the end of the night Adam did not make a move, Rachel was bummed but tries to get him to talk and tell her how he feels for her since she already knows.

SA #2

Lea Michele is actresses in a TV show called Glee, it is about a bunch of high school kids who join a glee club but each has their own story to share. In the song “Get it Right” by Lea Michele, she describes the hard emotions she had to overcome from her wrong doing through the use of narrative characterization, internal rhyme, and various others devices. She wrote this ballad for him by apologizing for what she has done.
Both narrative and characterization play a big part in the song because it is told by Lea and the perspective she see’s that caused her mistakes that have been made. This song can relate to many people have ever felt this way at one point, making a mistake with love or in life. She wrote this song about making a mistake in a relationship and hurting someone she has cared about for a long time. Every verse within the song begins with internal rhyming “What have I done, I wish I could run/Can I start again, with my faith shaken” each ending of the first line rhymes.
Part of this song uses an understatement when she says “But how many times will it take, Oh how many times will for me? To get it right” she uses a form of speech that contains expression and can tell she is weakening around this part; you can tell how she feels. Lea’s use of symbolism and imagery really help get a better understanding of the song, towards the end of the song she explains “So I throw up a fist, throw a punch in the air” you can easily picture what she says. Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent things such as ideas and emotions for instance when she says in the chorus “When all that you touch tumbles down/Yeah, I’ll send out a wish.” Lea’s choice of words and use of figurative language can be known just by listening to it.

Lyric #2 "Get It Right"

What have I done? I wish I could run
Away from this ship goin under
Just tryin to help out everyone else
Now I feel the weight of the world is on my shoulders

Chorus
What can you do when your good isn't good enough
And all that you touch tumbles down?
Cause my best intentions keep makin a mess of things
I just wanna fix it somehow

But how many times will it take?
Oh how many times will it take for me
To get it right
To get it right

Can I start again, with my fate again
Cause I can't go back and endure this
I just have to stay and face my mistakes,
But if I get stronger and wiser, I'll get through this

Chorus
What can you do when you're good isn't good enough?
And all that you touch tumbles down?
Coz my best intentions keep makin a mess of things,
I just wanna fix it somehow
But how many times will it take?
Oh, how many times will it take for me to
Get it right?

So I throw up my fists, throw a punch in the air,
And accept the truth that sometimes life isn't fair
I'll send down a wish and I'll send up a prayer
And finally someone will see how much I care

Chorus
What can you do when you're good isn't good enough?
And all that you touch tumbles down?
My best intentions keep making a mess of things,
I just wanna fix it somehow
But how many times will it take? Oooh
How many times will it take for me
To get it right, to get it right?

Myths/Legends

Myth/Legend #1:  Robert Johnson was a blues musician, it is said that he sold his soul to the devil so he can become the greatest musician for blues out there. With the exchange he did, Robert was able to create the blues that made him so famous. He claims it was a large black man (aka the devil) who he met at midnight, tuned his guitar, played some songs, and then gave it back to him.

Myth/Legend #2: Ozzy Osbourne is known for his wild life and drugs/ alcohol addiction, it has been said that he likes to bite off the heads of small animals like doves or bats. Their plans were to release doves into the air to get the attention of people but when no one was looking he decided to take a dove and bite its head off then spit it out. Security came and removed him from the place, Ozzy still had blood dripping down his lips and then he bit another doves head off. The bat issue is something Ozzy would be haunted for the rest of his life. He and Sharon did it for publicity and also he was always drunk and taken over by the drugs he used.

Myth/Legend #3: The image of the group walking across the street was created by McCartney, it was taken on August 8th, 1969. They walked across the street in a single line with John Lennon leading then Ringo Starr and after Paul McCartney and ending with Harrison. Paul was the only one barefoot in the shoot. The fact that he was not wearing shoes while taking this photo, when you listen to it one of the song played backwards insisting that he died in a car accident and people started to believe in that.
Myth/Legend #4: In 1965 at a concert called Newport Folk Festival, Bob Dylan had a surprised planned for the crowd when he had an electric guitar hanging from his shoulder but did not think there would be a big stink about it. He did a half acoustic half electric album, a mix of booing and cheering occurred. People said it was terrible sound quality and some really enjoyed it. Some felt it was a betrayal, according to an insider who was there say that Bob was shaken at the time.
Myth/Legend #5: It has been said that Gene Simmons has had a tongue transplant because of how long his tongue is. Lead singer of the band “Kiss” is known for the crazy make-up and long tongues, they say it is a cow’s tongue that was surgically attached to his own. Really his tongue is abnormally long and knows how to use it in ways that drew attention to him and his band. The cows tongue is nothing like Gene’s or any other human.
Myth/Legend #6: In the cover of the Sgt. Pepper album I recognize Paul McCartney, he was the lead singer of The Beatles and the only survivor of the group. Edgar Allen Poe was a famous poet and story writer. He is known for his creepy stories that are very well known today. Bob Dylan, a famous guitarist and known for his electric change. Three people I do not know are W.C Fields, Max Miller, and Diana Dors.

"Hello, I Love You" by The Doors

Songwriters: Kreiger, Robbie;Densmore, John;Morrison, Jim;Manzarek, Ray

Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game

She's walking down the street
Blind to every eye she meets
Do you think you'll be that guy
To make the queen of the angels sigh?

Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game

She holds her head so high
Like a statue in the sky
Here arms are wicked, and her legs are long
When she moves my brain screams out this song

Sidewalk crouches at her feet
Like a dog that begs for something sweet
Do you hope you make her see, you fool?
Do you hope to pluck this dusky jewel?

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello
I want you
I need my baby
Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello
